Discover the ancient Japanese art of Suminagashi “floating ink” and create a one of a kind handmade journal in this relaxing, two-day workshop: Suminagashi Marbled Covers with French Link Bound Text Block with artist Deborah Wilson!

Learn how to marble paper using floating inks by placing drops of ink gently into water, where they float and expand into rings of delicate colors, before transforming your favorite designs into a beautiful journal using the elegant French Link bookbinding technique.

This beginner-friendly workshop is open to adults of all experience levels. Deborah will guide participants through every step of the marbling and bookbinding process, and you’ll leave with a handcrafted journal, extra marbled papers for future creative projects, and the skills to continue making your own books at home.

September 26th: Each participant will marble treated papers using the Suminagashi Marbling technique.

September 27th: Participants will use selected papers they marbled as the covers of a journal they will bind using the French Link binding technique. Participants will leave with a completed journal and several Suminagashi marbled papers to be used as additional book covers or used in other art techniques (collage, mixed media, etc.), as well as the knowledge to continue book binding using the French Link binding technique.
