Step into a two-day, hands-on exploration of cold wax painting with Connie Collier and the Pike Road Arts Council on Friday, May 15 and Saturday, May 16 from 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. each day. This immersive workshop dives into abstract and semi-abstract landscape applications, introducing a versatile medium known for its rich texture, depth, and expressive mark-making. Designed for artists of all skill levels with some basic experience in oil painting, this experience will expand your approach and open new creative possibilities.

Cost & Registration

The cost for this workshop is $65 per participant. This workshop is limited to 10 attendees to allow for a focused and engaging experience. REGISTER HERE by May 1 to secure your spot!

What You’ll Learn & Create

Throughout the workshop, Connie will guide participants in creating semi-abstract landscape-inspired works while building a strong foundation in cold wax techniques. Attendees will explore paint surfaces suited for cold wax, develop an understanding of aerial perspective in landscapes, and learn how to successfully choose and layer colors to avoid muddiness and create depth. Through both demonstration and guided practice, participants will experiment with additive and subtractive methods, incorporate texture through a variety of tools and materials, and discover how and when to refine or transform their work throughout the process.

Participants will complete two 11×14 panels while gaining experience with collage techniques, drying methods, and surface manipulation. Connie will also share insight into her personal approach, offering demonstrations on tools such as palette knives, brayers, and scrapers, as well as techniques using parchment paper and other materials to achieve unique finishes.
