PIKE ROAD, Ala. — Officials from the Town of Pike Road gathered Tuesday morning at 3504 Wallahatchie Road to break ground on a new fire station and training facility, marking what local leaders called a defining moment in the community’s commitment to public safety.

The ceremony brought together town council members, fire department personnel, and community partners — including JMR+H Architecture, PC, and Russell Construction — to celebrate the start of a project years in the making. Construction is expected to begin immediately, with completion anticipated by the summer of 2027.

The new station will be built on a 10-acre plot directly across from the department’s current facility. In addition to housing fully operational fire apparatus and personnel, the building will feature dedicated classrooms and training areas designed to equip local first responders, emergency personnel, and volunteers with the resources they need to serve a rapidly growing community.

“Today marks an important milestone for our community as we break ground on a new fire station that will serve our residents for generations to come,” said Pike Road Fire Chief Matt Missildine. “This project represents more than just a building — it reflects our ongoing commitment to public safety, faster emergency response times, and the well-being of every person who lives and works here. I want to thank our city leaders, community partners, and citizens for their support in making this project possible.”

The Town Council recently awarded the construction bid to Russell Construction, moving the project into its active phase. Mayor Gordon Stone emphasized that the investment reflects the town’s broader priorities.

“The Town of Pike Road has always rated having great citizen services as a pillar of importance,” Stone said. “Today, we take another step forward in providing our community with fire and emergency protection that meets and surpasses expectations. Congratulations to our firefighters, board, and administration. This is another great day in the Town of Pike Road.”

The project comes as Pike Road continues to experience steady residential and commercial growth, placing increasing demands on emergency response infrastructure. The addition of on-site training facilities is expected to benefit not only the Pike Road Fire Department but also neighboring agencies and volunteer organizations throughout the region.
