PIKE ROAD, Ala. — The Town of Pike Road and the Montgomery County Probate Office continue testing an in-person automobile-tag renewal service at Pike Road Town Hall. The service started in early May and is open every Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and continues to provide Montgomery County residents with a convenient alternative to online renewal.
Montgomery County Probate Judge J.C. Love said the partnership advances the Probate Office’s effort to make services more accessible, particularly in growing parts of the county.
“At the probate court, we’re always looking at a way to expand services and do more to bring services to people rather than to have people having to come to us,” Love said.
The Tuesday office currently handles tag renewals only. Love said that was a natural first step for the new location.
“Right out of the bat, the first thing and only thing right now is tag renewals, which makes a lot of sense,” Love said. “Some people just don’t like to do it online.”
The test is attracting increasing interest, he said, including from residents in East Montgomery who may find Pike Road Town Hall a more convenient in-person destination.
“We’re seeing every week more and more people are coming out and taking advantage of it,” Love said.
Love said the Probate Office is also considering additional services for the Pike Road area. The first potential expansion is a print-on-demand kiosk which could be available inside of the Pike Road Publix. That service would allow residents to receive renewal stickers locally.
“We’re also looking at hopefully by September we’ll have a print-on-demand kiosk … that will print out your renewal sticker there,” Love said. “That’s going to be phase one.”
A possible second phase would add driver services, including an expanded partnership with the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency for driver’s license renewals, Love said. The proposed additions remain in development.
Residents using the current Tuesday tag-renewal service should bring their renewal notice, prior registration receipt or tag number, and an Alabama driver license or non-driver ID. Town Hall is located at 9575 Vaughn Road.
